Talent Drain on the Brain

Missing talent

Missing talent in your organization

As most American companies continue their ongoing emergence from the recession, they are faced with a significant problem: Despite persistent levels of high unemployment, there is an increasingly serious dearth of the highly skilled talent they require to remain competitive.

To some degree, the recession doubled as a nifty retention strategy; when there was nowhere else to go, no one wanted to leave and now that may now no longer be the case. Success-minded companies must determine who and what they need.

When it comes to their customers, most companies are clear about who their core customers are and what they require to remain customers. Companies should be equally analytical in identifying and segmenting their must-have key talent. They should consider developing the top-tier talent management programs that can attract and allow them to keep the critical talent they need.

Integral to any strategy for wooing, winning, and retaining key talent is an understanding of the critical talent’s “must-haves.” Understanding the different goals, ambitions, and expectations of the new multigenerational workforce is customary.

In Deloitte’s March 2011 global employee survey:65 percent of respondents said they are exploring their career options, and the respondents cited the following weaknesses in their companies’ corporate talent programs:

  • Uncertain career paths (57 percent of respondents)
  • Lack of trust in leadership (57 percent of respondents)
  • Difficulty keeping top performers (50 percent f respondents)
  • Inadequate training programs (48 percent of respondents)
  • Poor leadership development (35 percent of respondents)

  1. Mary,

I enjoyed this article! It’s very challenging for employers to attract and keep talented employees in these days where unemployment has created a vast pool of human resources but budget constraints and short-term strategies prohibit to make the best investment. It might be puzzling, but the turnover ratio in many companies is very high, which is not supposed to be the case in recession. This makes it clear that while for many people this is a huge problem, for others is a time of opportunity to find the best match in the market. The dance between employees and employers is on, and may the best players win!

    Best Regards,

The things i have seen in terms of laptop or computer memory is that there are features such as SDRAM, DDR etc, that must match the specific features of the motherboard. If the computer’s motherboard is rather current while there are no main system issues, updating the memory literally normally requires under an hour or so. It’s on the list of easiest computer system upgrade techniques one can visualize. Thanks for revealing your ideas.

What appeals to me the most about mobilie learning is the performance support. In the Embracing Mobile Learning blog that you shared, the author wrote- performance support mobile learning is information that results in your learners doing their job more effectively. It is learning at the time of need that can have positive results. You wrote about being able to access the information anywhere any time and not being tied to a computer- what are your thoughts on the peformance support aspect?Does the company where you are employed use any type of mobile learning? Have you personally experienced mobile learning?
